The XOI Smart Thermostat is based on a historically developed design of thermostats. We found out that design initially started clear, simple and functional. However, throughout time and particularly in the last 20 years, the field of design has become overloaded with technological ‘’show off’’ and merely focused on being new and attractive.Our aim was, therefore, to avoid unnecessary complications and go for a primitive design that is efficient and smart yet simple and easily accessible by users of different generations, ages and educational backgrounds.

 The design was inspired from the old thermostat shape, using its basic iconic geometry that is linked to our collective memory. The device remains mostly invisible due to its tented mirror and metallic material that reflect its surrounded environment.
